Self-Doubt Serves No One, Especially Not Yourself
Mar 15, 2026A true story from about ten years ago.
My son was nine at the time.
It was an ordinary Tuesday evening.
One of those quiet nights at home.
He was gaming.
I was reading.
Out of the blue, he asked,
“Mom… who’s your worst enemy?”
At first, I thought it was part of the game he was playing. Many of the games he played had dialogue happening in the background.
He didn’t look at me.
He just kept playing… waiting for my answer.
For a moment, my mind went to people from the past who didn’t like me.
People who didn’t approve of what I was doing with my life.
But almost immediately, I realized something.
Those people weren’t my worst enemies.
So I answered honestly.
“Me.”
Without even pausing his game, he raised his eyebrow and said,
“Wow… I’m surprised you got that right.”
🧐
I remember thinking, Where did he even come up with that question?
Apparently, it had nothing to do with the game.
He had simply been thinking about it.
Kids have a way of asking the simplest questions that reveal the biggest truths.
And even now, ten years later, that moment still stays with me.
Because the lesson still holds true.
Who Is Your Worst Enemy?
If I asked you that question right now, what would your answer be?
The definition of an enemy is:
“A person who is actively opposed or hostile to someone or something.”
When I think about that definition, I believe most of us fit it… when it comes to ourselves.
Most of us are our own worst enemy.
We battle ourselves through the conversations happening inside our heads.
We argue with our fears.
We wrestle with feelings of not being good enough.
We fight for the feeling of importance and significance.
And while we may think others are our enemies, the truth is they are busy fighting their own battles too.
Because just like us…
they are their own worst enemy as well.
The Truth About Self-Doubt
At the heart of most of these inner battles is one thing.
Self-doubt.
The quiet voice that questions whether we are capable, ready, or deserving.
It whispers that we should play it safe.
That we shouldn’t try.
That we might fail.
But the truth is simple:
Self-doubt serves no one — especially not yourself.
And yet it is one of the most common ways we stand in our own way.
Our real enemy is often the limitations we carry from past programming that tells us we can’t… or that we shouldn’t.
The People Who Break Free
But there are always people who break free from that pattern.
They decide to:
Be the person they want to become.
Do something different than they have done before.
And sometimes simply say,
“Forget it. I’m going for it anyway.”
Those are the people who experience real freedom.
Because the moment you stop fighting yourself, you begin creating the life you actually want.
Peace.
Happiness.
Success.
Not because life suddenly becomes perfect, but because you stop standing in your own way.
Why Not You?
Right now, you have the power to choose.
You can choose to believe in yourself.
You can choose to try something new.
You can choose to release the things that have been holding you back.
Imagine this.
Your life is a television series.
Is it interesting?
Is it filled with passion, purpose and excitement?
Is the lead character someone you admire?
Because here’s the truth:
You are the lead character in your own story.
You are your own reality show.
Create the character you would feel proud to portray.
Develop a storyline that inspires the people watching.
One that leaves others with hope.
The Plot Twist
Most people sit back and watch the stories of other people’s lives.
They admire them.
They wish that could be their story.
But it doesn’t have to stay that way.
You have the power to lead your life.
Start leading your life instead of letting life lead you.
Create a plot twist beginning today.
Because at the end of the day, one truth remains:
Self-doubt serves no one — especially not yourself.
Why not you?
I know you can.
And I know you deserve it.
